Update on Federal Health Care Reform Bill in Vermont Dependents who are under the age of 26 but are not now covered under their parents’ or guardians' BCBS or MVP health insurance will be allowed to enroll as dependents upon the renewal, on or after September 23rd, of their parents’ or gurardians' health insurance, providing them with coverage options at that time. BlueCrossBlueShield may allow a dependent under 26 to come back on their parent's plan before the first renewal after September 23 if the dependent involuntarily lost their job and therefore lost their employer insurance. BlueCrossBlueShield will not allow dependents under 26 who voluntarily drop their current coverage to come back on the parent's plan before the first renewal after September 23. It is possible to be considered a dependent under age 26 even if the dependent is married, though the spouse will not be allowed to obtain coverage as a dependent.
